Honda City’s rival Toyota Vios might debut in India in 2018; All details

The Thailand spec version of Vios is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and it is expected that the company might bring the sedan in two engine options- a 1.5-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine.

After the launch of Vios in South East Asian markets, Toyota is gearing up to introduce the sedan in Indian market too. It is expected that company might launch Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz rival Toyota Vios by the 2018 festive season (Diwali 2018) says a report on Autocar. It is expected that India bound Vios will be based on Etios core platform, which is codenamed 231B and might showcase sedan at 2018 Auto Expo.The sedan will fill the gap between Toyota Etios and Toyota Corolla Altis in company's line up.The Thailand spec version of Vios is powered by a 1.5-litre petrol engine and it is expected that the company might bring the sedan in two engine options- a 1.5-litre petrol and 1.4-litre diesel engine. The 1.5-litre petrol engine develops 107 hp of power and 141Nm of torque. The engine will be mated to a 7-speed Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) and manual gearbox.It is expected that during launch Toyota might consider to bring the petrol engine first and will introduce diesel engine at later stages. Dimensionally, as compared to Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz the Vios is shorter and measures 4420mm in length.The Vios much much wider than the Honda City, as it measures 1700mm in width, while the wheelbase of Vios stands at 2,550mm, which is lesser than Honda City and Maruti Suzuki Ciaz.

Toyota Vios will come equipped with features such as new projector headlamps with LED daytime running lights, T-shaped grille, new fog lamps and will ride on 16 and 17-inch alloy wheels. As to compete with its rivals, Toyota Vios will get features such as touchscreen infotainment system, audio system with steering mounted controls, leather upholstery, automatic air conditioning and keyless entry.

As for India launch, Toyota Motor might launch Vios under Rs 10 lakh as Maruti Suzuki Ciaz is priced in the range between Rs 7.90 lakh to Rs 11.70 lakh. The Honda City is available at a price of Rs 8.70 lakh for a base variant to Rs 13.80 lakh for top trim.
