Ford India has silently equipped ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brakeforce Distribution) as a standard safety feature on the Trend variants of the Figo hatchback and the Aspire compact sedan. This safety equipment was offered only on the Titanium and Titanium + versions. Earlier, the Trend variant of both the cars was equipped offered only with the driver and passenger side airbags along with other safety features like keyless entry and engine immobiliser. The carmaker has not revised the prices of the models and they continue to be priced between Rs 4.82 lakh and Rs 6.53 lakh for the Ford Figo and Rs 5.28 lakh to Rs 8.19 lakh for the Ford Aspire.
That said, the company has not offered these features on the base Ambiente versions which is still available with dual front airbags. ABS with EBD is a device that prevents locking of wheels while the vehicle is travelling over a slippery surface and would slide and eventually the driver would lose control. In a car equipped with ABS, the brakes engage and disengage repeatedly so that the car does not loose traction.
This move by the carmaker is expected to be due to the recent announcement by the Government of India to make airbags, ABS and speed warning standard across all variants. This mandate will come into effect for cars sold after October 2018, however, with the rising concern for safety in potential buyers, the company has already added ABS with EBD in the Trend versions of the hatchback and the compact sedan.
