Datsun redi-GO has emerged as a success story for the brand with the most of the sales coming from this model when Nissan registered a 39% increase in overall sales of the company. The GO series was first launched some three years ago. It started with Datsun GO, then came GO+ and finally redi-GO. While the redi-GO was a huge improvement from the previous two cars, many felt that it lacked power. However, Datsun has fixed that one problem and launched the redi-GO 1.0 L in India on 26th July. It has received a significant power boost compared to the previous 0.8 L redi-GO and is now a stronger contender to go up against Renault Kwid 1L and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. The following is a comparison among the three based on specifications and price:
redi-GO 1.0 L
The most significant upgrade that the redi-GO has been given is, of course, the engine. It is now powered by a 1.0 litre, three-cylinder engine that makes 67 hp of power and 91 Nm of torque and is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Not just a boost in power, the new engine will also help it churn out better fuel efficiency thanks to Intelligent Spark Automated Technology (iSAT). The ARAI certified mileage of the redi-GO 1.0 L is 22.5 kmpl.
The redi-GO is the shortest among the three at 3,429 mm of length, however, has the tallest ground clearance at 185 mm, which is 5 mm more than the Kwid. In terms of width though, the redi-GO measures 1,560 mm wider than the Alto K10 at 1,490/1,515 mm (with side moulding).
Kwid 1 L
Kwid 1L is powered by a 999cc engine that makes 67 bhp at 5500 rpm and 91 Nm at 4250 rpm, paired to a five-speed manual or an AMT (automatic transmission) gearbox. The ARAI certified fuel efficiency of the Kwid is 23.01 kmpl.
The Kwid is quite the largest of the three cars in comparison with 3,679 mm of length, 1,579 mm in length. The redi-GO is taller than the Kwid and the Alto.
The Alto K10 comes with a 998cc engine that makes 66 bhp at 6000 rpm and 90 Nm at 3500 rpm. The K10 has also been made compatible to support CNG. With the CNG mode on, the K10 produces 58.19 hp at 6000 rpm and 78 Nm at 3500 rpm. It comes with a five-speed manual and an AMT gearbox, depending on the variant.
The K10 falls in the middle of the Kwid and redi-GO in terms of length at 3,545 mm and is the narrowest of the three.
redi-GO 1.0 L
The new car has a new '1.0' badge on the boot lid that pretty much is the only bit that distinguishes it from the 0.8-litre car. It now comes with all-black interiors with red accents on the seats, better upholstery, silver finish on the aircon vents and the horn pad. The redi-GO does not feature an infotainment system, but a regular music system with CD player, USB and AUX-In. It gets central-locking and a remote key.
In terms of safety, the new redi-GO features a driver-side airbag on the Sport variant, three-point seat belts, child safety door locks and an immobiliser. It gets 220 litres of boot space and is available in five colours.
The redi-GO can also be covered under the Datsun Care plans that cover maintenance, roadside assistance, extended warranty, better resale value, inflation related costs and are accepted at Nissan and Datsun outlets. There are three plans available under the Datsun Care - three years/30,000 km, four years/40,000 km and five years/50,000 km. The price of the three packages are as follows: three year - Rs 22,287, four year - Rs 31,495 and five year - Rs 43,298.
