Volkswagen is all set to reveal the sixth generation Polo today in Berlin, Germany. Clear images of the new Polo and Polo GTI, however, have already emerged on the internet, revealing the details. The 2018 Polo is based on A0 version of the MQB platform, which makes the next-gen Polo lighter in weight than the present model. The images suggest that the next-gen Polo will get redesigned bumpers with LED headlamps and DRL's, wider tyres and a roof spoiler. In addition, the sportier version of Polo GTI gets a honeycomb grille, alloy wheels, fog lamps and GTI moniker on the grille.
The 2018 Polo will be powered by a 1.0 litre TSI three-cylinder petrol engine that will be available in two states of tunes – 93 hp and 113 hp. The second petrol unit will come with a 1.5 litre TSI four-cylinder configuration that makes 148 hp. The diesel variants will get a 1.6 litre TDI four-cylinder unit that will deliver 78 hp and 93 hp of power. The next generation Polo GTI, on the other hand, is expected to get a 2.0 litre TSI motor that churns out 197 hp of power.
As of now there is no information about the interior updates in 2018 Polo but it is expected to get an all new dashboard inspired from the Volkswagen Golf and a new infotainment system. Also, the latest version of Polo will feature automatic parking technology. The next generation Polo will be longer than the current generation Polo at 4,053 mm in length. Other dimensions include 1,751 mm of width, 1,446 mm of height and a wheelbase of 2,564 mm.
Although Volkswagen India hasn't commented yet on the introduction of the new Polo in India, we expect the car to be launched here in the later part of 2018. Considering the additional features and a newer and complex platform, the new Polo could be priced at a slight premium over the current generation Polo.
