Auto Expo serves as a stage for showcasing and launching of new concepts and new products respectively, and Auto Expo 2018 is likely to see some game-changing cars and motorcycles. Many of the key players in the Indian passenger car market will unveil their new products, including Tata Motors. While Tata's Safari SUV has been tremendously successful in India, the home-grown brand is now preparing to unveil its new concept SUV that will rival the Jeep Compass. Internally called H5, the new SUV has been spied testing in the country and is expected to come in five- and seven-seat layouts. The two versions of the H5 will be based on the Land Rover Discovery Sport's L550 platform, however, in terms of design, the two will be very different.
Tata Motors' new SUV is also likely to share engine options with FCA’s 2.0-litre, four-cylinder MultiJet II diesel engine. However, there will be different states of tune for the two versions - 140hp for the five-seater and 170hp for the seven-seater. A four-wheel-drive trim is also expected to be made available.
Tata Motors's new SUVs are likely to be priced close to Rs 13 lakh for the five-seater and about Rs 15 lakh for the base trim of the seven-seater version. At these price points, the H5's production version will compete against the likes of Jeep Compass and Hyundai Creta.
Auto Expo 2018 will see another concept from Tata Motors besides the H5 SUV. The hatchback concept codenamed X451 will rival the Hyundai i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
