The next-gen Audi Q5 has been an object of our curiosity all of last year, and over the last few months, test mules have been spotted testing a couple of times. We had speculated a launch date around January but we no have a confirmation according to reports in Autocar that the Q5 will be launched officially on the 18th of January 2018. The Q5 as is the tradition will be slotted between theQ7 and the Q3 and is likely to be priced anywhere between 48 to 56 lakh. Audi has looked at the CKD format to keep the prices down.
Audi is yet to announce final specs for the next-generation Q5 officially but we expect it launch with a 190 hp 2.0-litre diesel motor, that is likely to be the volume driver for the model. However, Audi is also likely to launch the 252 hp 2.0-litre petrol and a range-topping 286 hp 3.0-litre diesel V6 from the Q7. The engine is likely to transfer power through an 8-speed automatic transmission with Audi Quattro all-wheel-drive system channelling power to all four wheels.
The next-gen Q5 is built on the groups MLB Evo platform, which is lighter than the model it replaces. And one of the most stands out things that you will see on the Q5 is the lineage that it shares with the new Q7. The cabin is likely to get a touch-up as well, top-trims in the Q5 garage will offer Audi’s virtual cockpit all-digital instrument cluster, in-car Wi-Fi and an 8.3-inch floating screen for the MMI system that will come bundled with Apple Car Play and Android Auto.
