Audi India has started testing the new A8, which was unveiled internationally at the Audi Summit in Spain earlier this year. The 2018 Audi A8 was recently spied testing on Indian roads by MotorBeam that will be available in the long wheelbase version. The car manufacturer is expected to launch the new-generation A8 in the country in the first half of next year. The 2018 Audi A8 will compete with the likes of the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and the BMW 7-Series.
The flagship sedan from the German carmaker has taken its inspiration from the Prologue concept that was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo. The new Audi A8 will get geometric headlamps, a large front grill. The luxury saloon is built on the new platform and will get the most advanced active suspension system. The suspension will use the 48-volt electrical architecture, the new MLB Evo architecture. It will work using a front-mounted camera that will analyse the road and will adjust the suspension as per the road surface.
The interior of the luxury saloon, on the other hand, will get a virtual dashboard design with displays along with a MMID (Multi-Media Information Display) touchscreen and a virtual cockpit. The company will also equip the A8 with new multi-function steering wheel and massage seats and a foot massage function for those riding in the back.
Audi will also equip the car with a new Bang & Olufsen Advanced Sound System with 3D sound. The 3D audio system was first introduced in the Q7 in 2015 and the A8 will get an updated version. The sound system can be configured to optimise the audio depending on the number of occupants in the car. The passengers can configure the system using the MMI system as well as a separate operating unit for the rear that resembles a smartphone.
The 2018 Audi A8 will be available in the form of a V6 petrol and an electric motor. It is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 turbo diesel engine with 286 hp of power and a 3.0 litre petrol unit that produces 340 hp of power. The A8 will also get two V8 engines, a 4.0 litre diesel unit with 435 hp output and a 4.0 litre petrol engine that produces 460 hp. The larger 6.0 litre W12 engine will be available in the top version. All these engine options will get Audi's mild-hybrid technology. A fully active suspension and body that reacts to its surroundings to provide the best ride for your driving style and road, level-3 autonomous driving and self-parking will also be equipped on the new-generation A8.
