We’ve been talking about the new-generation Audi A8 for some time now, and ever since its launch globally in Barcelona last year, we have been anticipating its India launch. The latest development towards this end comes from Audi’s official website in India which has listed the A8L with the 'coming soon' words. This gives us some reason to believe that Audi will bring their flagship to India only with the elongated wheelbase option, which means that the A8L measures in at 5,302 mm in length, 1,945 mm in width and 1,488 mm in height, which is almost 40 mm longer and 17 mm taller than the outgoing A8. This is thanks to the new platform that was part of the expected package, the car should feature considerably more in terms of headroom.
The 2018 Audi A8 L is internationally available with two engine options, the 55 TFSI and the 50 TDI. Audi may offer both engines in India once they actually do launch the A8L. The 55 TFSI is powered by a 3.0-litre TFSI turbocharged V6 petrol engine that produces 338 hp and 500 Nm of torque. The A8 L 50 TDI uses a 3.0-litre TDI turbocharged V6 diesel engine that develops 285 hp and 600 Nm of torque. The 8-speed tiptronic gearbox along with the Quattro all wheel drive system come standard.
The Audi A8 L engines will come with mild hybrid technology for the first time as standard. The system supports start-stop function up to a speed of 22 kmph. One interesting highlight of the system is that the car can run as a zero emission vehicle for almost 40 seconds if the driver releases the accelerator in the range of 55 to 160 kmph.
Other salient features of the new Audi A8 L include company’s matrix LED headlights, 12.3-inch Audi virtual cockpit, four-zone climate control system and a lot more. The luxury sedan also comes with an advanced 23-speaker 1,920 watt Bang & Olufsen sound system.
