Mercedes-Benz has launched the E-Class luxury sedan in LWB (Long Wheel Base) version at a price of Rs 56.15 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai. The major highlight of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is that the increased the wheelbase of the car, which now measures 3,079 mm over the previous version at 2,874 mm, translating into an increase of 200 mm. As a result of the longer wheelbase, the overall length has increased significantly to 5,063 mm. The larger cabin hence has liberated more room for the occupants, especially at the rear by offering more legroom and head room for a tall passenger. The car manufacturer has also added the C-pillar at the rear window panel with a separate quarter glass to create more space inside the cabin.

The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is already available in the Chinese market, but with a left-hand drive. Mercedes-Benz India will not import the vehicle from China and will manufacture the car in India with a right-hand-drive (RHD) configuration. The interior and exterior design of the E-Class has taken inspiration from the outgoing S-Class as well as the C-Class sedans. The carmaker has also equipped the new sedan with a 12.3-inch infotainment system with Android Auto and AppleCarPlay.
The COMAND ONLINE infotainment system features a Burmester 3D-surround sound system with 13 speakers and a 590 W output. The system has been developed in partnership between Mercedes-Benz and Burmester. Mercedes-Benz has also added more features for the rear passengers such as rear seats with a memory function that can save up to three seating positions. The rear seats can recline too at 37 degrees and can be controlled from the rear.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB now gets Air Body Control self-levelling suspension that uses adaptive damping technology that improves the ride comfort and vehicle driving dynamics. The multifunction steering wheel of the new E-Class has touch controls for navigation, command and audio system. The driver can also choose between different driving modes such as Eco, Comfort, Sports, Sports+.
The Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB is offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. The petrol E200 gets its power from a 2.0 litre turbocharged petrol engine that generates 181 hp of power and 300 Nm of torque. The diesel E350d is powered by a 3.0 litre V6 unit that develops 254 hp and 620 Nm of torque. Both the variants are paired to a 9-speed automatic transmission instead of the 7-speed unit in the regular E-Class. Despite the size and its weight, the new E-Class isn't a slouch by any means and the company also claims that the V6 diesel variant can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.6 seconds.
At a starting price Rs 56.15 lakh, ex-showroom, Mumbai, the Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the longest premium sedan in its segment and rivals against the likes of the BMW 5 Series, Volvo S90, Audi A6 and Jaguar XF.
