The new S-Cross will no longer be available with the 1.6-litre DDiS 20 turbo diesel engine, but will now get its power from the only the 1.3-litre engine DDiS200 but will get Maruti’s Smart Hybrid technology as on the Ciaz. The 1.3 litre powerplant is likely to make 88 hp and 200 Nm of torque. This means the new S-Cross will get features like idle-stop-start, torque assist, brake energy regeneration system and a gearshift indicator. Which will probably result in a higher fuel economy. The new S-Cross will also be available in a new colour which is Nexa Blue, replacing the Urban blue on the outgoing model.
The interiors on the new 2017 Maruti Suzuki S-Cross also gets a touch up with the major addition being the introduction of Apple Car play and Android Auto the interface. Making the recently launched Captur the only car in the segment to miss out on this feature. Tested at the company’s world-class Rohtak R&D facility, the all-new S-Cross is among the six models already compliant with advanced upcoming new safety norms – frontal offset crash, side impact and pedestrian safety. It comes with rear seat ISO-FIX child seat safety mount. These features are standard across all variants of S-Cross.
Maruti has spent a bold 100-crore on developing the new S-Cross, which boasts a 95% rate of localisation, indicating that spares and maintenance costs will be kept to a minimum. Presenting the all-new S-Cross to customers, Mr Kenichi Ayukawa, Managing Director & CEO, Maruti Suzuki said, “S-Cross, in its newest form, is an important milestone in our journey of transformation. The all-new S-Cross comes with an all-new fascia that is bold and aggressive. By equipping it with the acclaimed green technology DDiS200 with Smart Hybrid we have been able to bring down emissions in the all-new S-Cross to as low as 105.5 gm/km. We are confident that S-Cross will strengthen Maruti Suzuki’s position in the premium urban segment.”
