Another 250cc motorcycle seems ready to join the Yamaha line up in India, as is suggested by the spy images of the Fazer 250. While Yamaha's other quarter litre street fighter is the FZ25, the Fazer 250 will be more of a sports tourer. The motorcycle was recently spotted by Xbhp testing near Noida.
The Fazer 250 and the FZ25 will share the same platform. Several features of the FZ25 have been incorporated in the new quarter litre tourer, such as the LED tail lamp unit and a stubby exhaust. The Fazer 250 will get a single headlamp, unlike the Fazer 150 which has a dual headlamp set up.
The engine too will be shared with the FZ25, which is a 249cc, single cylinder engine that produces maximum power of 20.6 bhp and 20 Nm of torque. Braking will be covered by 282mm disc brake up front along with a 220mm disc unit at the rear.
An ABS (anti-lock braking system) was given a miss in the FZ25. It isn't available even as an option. We sure hope that Yamaha gives the Fazer 250 an ABS. The Fazer 250 or Fazer 25 is expected to launch in India sometime in the coming months, with an expected price tag of about Rs 1.5-2 lakh (ex-showroom). It would compete against the likes of Honda CBR 250 and KTM 200 Duke.
Although Yamaha have been a little behind time in launching quarter litre motorcycles in India, while other brands had done long back, but the Japanese brand now seems to be catching up with current market trend in India, which is welcoming the sub-500cc segment. The FZ25 was launched here in January 2017.
