G310r G310 R stands to be an option for anyone considering to buy a 390 Duke

BMW Motorrad is finally going to enter the Indian market with the launch of the 2017 G310 R and the GS310. It will be producing motorcycles locally in collaboration with TVS, which will be responsible for manufacturing while BMW remains in-charge of designing and technology. Further confirming plans for the G310 R's launch in India, another video has surfaced where the motorcycle was shot without camouflage on NH7. The G310 R will be the most affordable and the smallest capacity motorcycle offered by the German manufacturer. BMW will also be exporting units manufactured in India to Europe, other countries in Asia and also to Australia.

It was first showcased at the Auto Expo held in February. The BMW G310 R comes with 313cc engine, that produces 34 bhp and 28 Nm of peak torque, paired to a six-speed constant mesh transmission. It will have 300mm disc at the front and a 240mm rear disc assisted by dual-channel ABS. India-bound G310 R is likely to come in three colours - Strato Blue Metallic, Cosmic Black and Pearl White Metallic.

TVS too has been working on a motorcycle based on the same platform as the G310 R. It has been named Akula, and the production version of it will be revealed soon.

Austrian motorcycle manufacturer KTM recently updated its product line-up in India with the launch of 2017 390 Duke, 250 Duke and 200 Duke. KTM has come to establish a fan following for its bikes in India. However, the G310 R stands to be an option for anyone considering to buy a 390 Duke.

The pricing of the G310 R has not been confirmed yet, however it is likely be come with a price tag somewhere between Rs 3 to 4 lakh (ex showroom, New Delhi).

At 3-4 Lacs they might not launch it at all as well. G 310 is a 310 CC BIke. Ktm 390 is priced at 2.25 lacs which is 370 odd cc (With higher power and torque figures). It comes with Slipper Clutch and Ride By Wire throttle which both the G310 misses out on.In this category of small capacity entry level performance bikes none can charge too much of a premium for b value. It simply wont work out even if the quality of bikes is better compared to KTMs. Also the very reason for BWM to enter this category (G310 is their smallest capacity bike) is expectation of sheer numbers. And without sensible pricing they can forget Indian market helping them to achieve that goal.

At the price of 3-4 lakhs they may not launch it at all as well. At this category of small displacements bikes the compeion is so intense that a price above KTM Duke 390 wont make any sense at all. KTM is able to deliver 390 at 2.25 lakhs with Ride by Wire and Slipper Clutch with BMW G310 doesn't have. While BMWs quality is expected to be better than KTM, BMW cannot justify a price above 2.5 lakhs.Having said that if its mere presence in that category BWM is eyeing they can price it as premium. If they want numbers they got to price it sensibly. Not many are going to pay so much extra for b value for an entry level sports premium bike
