The Italian marquee SWM has confirmed that they will be reaching the sub-continent, sometime this year. They will be sold under Kinetic’s Moto-Royale umbrella which currently sells MV Agusta and Moto Guzzi in India.

If you're wondering who SWM are, it’s no surprise, since the last time they were selling motorcycles was in the 1980s; having only started their brand in the 1970s. However, even in their decade-long tenure SWM earned their pedigree winning several trials and motocross titles in Italy. In 1984, the company began to falter and went into liquidation.

Fast Forward to 2014, China’s Shineray Group started funding SWM, who still continues to manufacture out of Italy.

The important thing to know is that SWM doesn't manufacture their own engines. It’s probably a good thing considering they’ve been under for the better half of four decades. On the bright side, this means that the engines come from pre-KTM era Husqvarnas. We can expect the engines to be torquey and somewhat reliable.
Word has it that Kinetic intend to bring the bikes down via the CKD route and this means we can expect very competitive prices. Although they may be slightly more upmarket than KTMs.

So far, Kinetic intends to only sell the SuperDual on-off road adventure bike of the total twelve models which SWM manufacture. However, it was unclear as to when exactly the SuperDual is likely to land in India.

The SWM SuperDual is powered by a four-stroke, single-cylinder 600 cc engine sourced from the Husqvarna TE 630 and manufactured in Italy. It gets slightly more power than the Husky with the under-slung exhaust configuration. The SuperDual makes around 54 bhp of power and 53.5 Nm of torque. With an 18-litre fuel tank, long travel suspension, high ground clearance and dry weight of 186 kg, the SWM SuperDual promise all the features identified with an adventure motorcycle. From the looks of it, it has great potential as a middleweight adventure bike for India.

What will be crucial for its success is pricing and after sales support. If MotoRoyale manages to price it under ₹ 6 lakh (ex-showroom), then the SWN SuperDual certainly makes for a promising and attractive product.

The SWM SuperDual gets it's 630cc heart from a Husqvarna TE630 and is presently manufactured in Italy. Interestingly, the SuperDual will make more power than its Husqie sibling, courtesy the under-slung exhaust configuration. The SuperDual is likely to make around 53 hp and 53.5 Nm of twist. The 18-litre fuel tank long travel suspension and high ground clearance and dry weight of a lowly 186 kg mean that the SWM is likely to make one helluva exciting motorcycle. However, the price factor will play a crucial role in the position of the bike.We expect the SuperDual to be pegged just under the 6 lakh mark.
