Following the moderate success of the Jaguar XE in the subcontinent. Jaguar Land Rover have announced that the diesel derivative will be introduced to their line-up to sell alongside the petrol variant. The new car, which was internally built under the MY17 moniker will be available in three trims ie. Pure, Prestige and Portfolio.

The XE diesel will be powered by a 2-litre turbocharged, four-cylinder diesel engine which is a part of Jaguar's Ingenium family of engines. The diesel will produce177 hp. Being a diesel, the XE engine really shines when it comes to torque, making a shattering 430 Nm at peak.

Power transmission will be carried out by an 8-Speed Auto which will include Jaguar's trade-marked Drive Control that allows you to select between Normal, Eco, Dynamic modes or Rain/Ice/Snow modes, each subtly changes the steering and throttle mapping to maximise control even when traction is an issue. There will also be regenerative braking, All Surface Progress Control, a 380W infotainment system by Meridian that can be powered by the touch screen central controller and a panoramic sunroof. All which will be available as standard.

Jaguar has announced that the XE diesel will be available at Rs. 38.35 lakh and can be booked at the cost of 2 lakh through any of JLR's 24 existing authorised dealers or can be booked online at findmeacar.in. The petrol will be continued alongside the diesel variant. However, we expect that the presence of a functional diesel will help to greatly drive up sales of the XE.
