We reported earlier that Honda Motorcycles and Scooters will bring new products in India during FY 2017-18. Alongside the Africa Twin, trial production of which has already commenced, the two-wheeler manufacturer may also introduce the XRE300 as it was recently spied at the company's floor shop. The XRE300 was launched in 2009 by Honda Brazil for the Brazilian Market.
The adventure-tourer motorcycle, XRE300 is powered by a 291 cc, fuel injected, single cylinder, air-cooled engine. The unit produces 25 hp of power and 27 Nm of torque mated to a 5-speed gearbox. The suspension duties are handled by a 245 mm telescopic fork up front and a pro-link suspension at the rear. It gets 256 mm disc at front and 220 mm disc at the rear. As of now, its is not confirmed if the manufacturer may bring the ABS version, but it would increase the safety quotient of the motorcycle. The kerb weight of the motorcycle is 146 kg and it has a fuel tank capacity of 13.8 litres.
Dimensionally, the Brazilian model of XRE300 measures 2,172 mm in length, 838 mm in width, 1417 mm wheelbase, 259 mm ground clearance and seat height of 860 mm. The Honda XRE300 is expected to be priced around Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 2 lakh and once introduced, it will compete with the likes of upcoming KTM 390 Adventure and Royal Enfield Himalayan. HMSI has started the production of the much-awaited Africa Twin and it is expected that the XRE300 will launch after its larger adventure-tourer sibling.
