Honda 2Wheelers India seems to be growing at a good pace in the Indian motorcycle market, registering a 20% hike in total sales. While the brand sold 453,884 units in July last year, the sales figure for this year was increased to 544,508 units in the same period. Turns out this year Honda 2Wheelers was the only brand to have witnessed a 2% gain in market share which is now up to 28.8%, including domestic sales and exports. With this, Honda 2Wheelers became the highest market share gainer in July 2017. Where the industry witnessed its highest growth of 14% in July 2017 this financial year (2017-18) on a year-on-year basis, Honda 2Wheelers alone contributed 50% to the new volumes added to the industry.
In terms of domestic sales, Honda2Wheelers sold 511,939 units in July 2017, increased considerably compared to 429,551 units in July 2016. Honda’s domestic two-wheeler sales, including scooters and motorcycles, grew by 19%.
July was also the month when Honda 2Wheelers recorded its highest ever exports in a single month at 32,569 units, which is a 34% growth.
Commenting on the performance, Yadvinder Singh Guleria, Senior Vice President – Sales & Marketing, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India Pvt Ltd said: “Honda’s commitment to the market and its customers have helped us achieve double digit growth. With aggressive network expansion and the introduction of new products, we have not only created a lot of excitement among our consumers but also succeeded in reaching closer to the customers. The increasing popularity of Honda vehicles in other countries, especially Latin America, has added to our sales. In July, Honda exports reached an all time high monthly exports.”
Honda has lately extended its product line up in India with two new products within two months. The Africa Twin adventure tourer came in May, while an affordable scooter, the Cliq was launched in June.
