Two-wheeler makers in India, Hero MotoCorp and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India are offering heavy discounts and offer on its existing BSIII compliant models. The companies are offering discounts to clear the stocks and to make way for the new and updated BS IV models as the recent judgment by the Supreme Court of India to ban the sale and/or registration of the BSIII compliant two-wheelers from 1st April, 2017 will come into effect.
As reported by PTI, around 6.71 lakh two-wheelers are being affected out of the 8 lakh BS-III units due to the ban and the said two-wheeler manufacturers are trying to sell as many vehicles as possible within the limited time by offering 'unheard of' discounts by them.
Hero MotoCorp is offering discounts of up to Rs 12,500 on its BS-III scooters, Rs 7,500 on premium motorcycles and Rs 5,000 off on the commuter motorcycles. Honda Motorcycles and Scooter India is also offering a discount of Rs 10,000 on its BSIII products.
In line with the upcoming emission norms, two-wheeler manufacturing units including Hero MotoCorp have already started despatch of their BSIV compliant range. These include the Passion Pro, Glamour, Splendor Pro and the Maestro Edge models. All the said models also have Automatic Headlamp On or AHO function which will eventually become a mandate for two-wheelers in India.
