Manufacturers such as Mahindra and Hero Electric introduced electric two-wheelers along time back but sales haven't been encouraging for any of them. However, companies are still eyeing this segment with interest due to the various announcements made by the Government of India to promote electric vehicles. Now, Bajaj Auto plan is reportedly planning to join this league as it's working on an electric two-wheeler, reports BikeWale. However, at this point, it's is not clear if the vehicle in discussion will be a scooter or motorcycle. It is expected that the electric vehicle will be launched in 2020. It is said that the electric two-wheeler project is in its initial stages and it might be developed under the KTM brand. Since 2012, KTM is selling E- ride range of electric bikes in Europe such as Freeride E-SX, Freeride E-XC and Freeride E-SM.
KTM E-Ride motorcycle are powered by a electric motor that delivers 15 hp to 22 hp of power and 42Nm of torque and it gets KTM PowerPack battery that cab be completely charged in 50 minutes.
In India, Hero Electric is already selling electric scooters including the E-Sprint, which is powered by a 800 watt motor with 33 AH battery. The E-scooter can run upto 80 km on Eco Mode and 65km on power mode. Also, Mahindra showcased electric scooter at the 2016 Auto Expo, GenZe 2.0, which stands for Generation zero emissions.
Along with this, there have been rumours that Bajaj Auto is planning to bring its one of the best selling scooters Chetak but as of now there are no details about when it will be relaunched.
