  • Top 10 News Today: Sadhvi Prachi targets VP Hamid Ansari over Yoga day, Smriti Irani educational qualifications row, heavy rains in Mumbai delay flights, AIPMT test, more

Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) leader Sadhvi Prachi today kicked up another controversy with her remarks that those who are opposed to Yoga should go to Pakistan and that they have “no right” to stay in the country. The comments came by way of VHP’s response to All India Muslim Personal Law Board’s (AIMPLB) opposition to yoga. The Sadhvi also did not spare Vice President Hamid Ansari, saying the main celebrations in Rajpath here on the occasion of the World’s First International Day of Yoga on Sunday was not the wedding of a politician’s daughter that he needed an “invitation. They should connect themselves with the traditions of India, culture of India…there is no need for any objection. If they are objecting then they should go to Pakistan. People who are objecting to it have no right to reside in India,” the fiery VHP leader said when asked about AIMPLB’s opposition to Yoga.
The remarks came days after firebrand BJP MP Yogi Adityanath said that those who are opposed to ‘Surya namaskar’ should “drown in the sea” amid protests by Muslim groups over the drill during the Yoga Day celebrations on June 21.
Smriti Irani educational qualifications row: Court order likely tomorrow. A Delhi court is likely to pronounce tomorrow its order on a complaint against Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani for allegedly giving “false” information about her educational qualification. The complaint was filed by freelance writer Ahmer Khan, who alleged that Smriti Irani in her three affidavits before the EC while filing nominations for her candidature for Lok Sabha as well as RS polls had purportedly given different details about her educational qualification. In her affidavit for April 2004 Lok Sabha polls Smriti Irani had said that she completed her BA in 1996 from Delhi University (school of correspondence) whereas in another affidavit of July 11, 2011 for contesting RS election she said her highest educational qualification was B.Com part I from the School of Correspondence, DU. The complaint alleged that in the affidavit filed for nomination of April 16, 2014 Lok Sabha elections from Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, Irani said she had completed Bachelor of Commerce Part-I from School of Open Learning, DU. “It is evident from the contents of the affidavits filed by Smriti Z Irani that at best only one of the depositions by her on oath in respect of her educational qualifications is correct,” the complaint alleged. “The aforesaid affidavits of Smriti Irani, apart from the ostensibly false and discrepant statements in respect of her educational qualifications, also appear to contain false/discrepant statements…,” it claimed.
