'Achieving International Excellence' - That's been the logo, motto and goal of UWA. Our mission has always been to stretch and strive for international excellence to be a world class university. We are wholly committed to the cause of internationalisation. From a very early stage there was a realisation that in order to develop as a world class university UWA had to look outward. We did that early and haven't looked back.

India is a key part of our internationalisation strategy. Our interest in the Indian market is very broad. We are eager to develop India as a market - and the best way to do so is by getting high quality Indian students, both graduates and undergraduates. We have over 200 Indian students on campus today (international students number 3,000). And that has grown from a virtually negligible number two years back. India may not represent the biggest cohort of international students, but it's the fastest growing.

The other area where our interest lies is collaborations with top-ranked institutions in India for joint research programs and academic exchanges. We recently signed a MoU with the University of Delhi.

We're Western Australia's oldest University - we were established way back in 1911. And so we're very quickly moving into our 100th year. The centenary celebrations will be held over three years - from 2011 to 2013, and there will be a series of events to mark the occasion. Everyone's invited to come and join the party.

UWA had the specific course that I was looking for - the Master in Business Administration, specialising in Entrepreneurship and Innovation. I could have easily chosen to do the course in Melbourne or Brisbane, but since I already had family here and the course fees were similar, I chose Perth. It is also closer to home. The course specialises in innovation so it is about new technology that incorporates business. Everybody else was going to the US or UK, I wanted to do something different. Now, because Perth is so multicultural, I have friends from Australia and all over the world.
