The decision would be applicable to all government and government-aided schools, as well as private-unaided schools in the capital. The DoE, however, has given private schools the freedom to follow their own timings.
The move is likely to affect nearly 40,000 government school teachers, as well as thousands of teachers in the citys private schools. There will be no change in existing timings for students.
Currently, government school teachers in single-shift schools, work from 7.30 am to 1.30 pm or from 8 am to 2 pm both summer and winter. Teachers will have to stay in school from 7.15 am to 1.45 pm or from 7.45 am to 2.15 pm.
For teachers teaching in double-shift schools, the timings have been changed from 7 am to 12.30 am in summer to 6.45 am to 12.45 am. In evening schools, it has been changed from 1 pm to 6.10 pm to 12.55 pm to 6.35 pm.
Teachers accompanying children in school buses, as per Supreme Court order, are exempt from the order, the order stated.
