German automaker Volkswagen on Thursday denied it is phasing out its premium sedan Passat in India. The carmaker said it is working on a new generation Passat instead, which will be launched soon.

We at Volkswagen continue to sell the current generation of the Passat through our dealer network. As with all our products, serviceability and availability of spares will never be an issue, Volkswagen said.

Globally the next generation of the Passat is being readied and we shall introduce it in the Indian market at the appropriate time, the statement said.

Passat had a market share of 23% at the end of April-November 2013 period in the premium 3-litre sedan range while rival Skodas Superb is the dominant player with 40% market share. The company sold 421 Passats in the April-November 2013, a decline of 39% on a year-on-year basis.
