We have seen high-end phones with a brilliant specification sheet, we have witnessed compact netbooks, but can they ever beat the flavour of 7 inches compact capacitive touch tablets Definitely not. Tablets have become hot favourite gadgets for everyone now, be it a teenager or a business professional. Everyone wants to access all their necessary things on the move.
The budget end of the Android tablet marketplace is hotting up with some fierce competition. Recently Zync Global, a little known Noida-based company came up with its new tablet running on Google Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Priced at R8,990, the Zync Z-990 is definitely an affordable Android tablet and comes in an ultra-portable design featuring realtime multitasking and symmetrical multiprocessing capabilities. The tablet comes with add-on practical accessories such as screen guard, pouch and a lycra sleeve apart from the standard USB cable and a charger.
Talking about the looks, Zync has a simple design and looks quite similar to its predecessors. Z-990 has a matte finish and comes in a jet black protective sleeve pouch. The right side of the tablet equips all the portsthe top right has the Power, Menu and the Esc buttons and it has been named at the back to assist the users further. Back, Home and apps are there on the left bottom. Disappointingly, there are no physical volume control buttons but can be controlled with the touch when playing video or audio.
The tablet has a 7-inch TFT capacitive display of 800 x 400 pixels supporting 5 point multi-touch screen. Z-990 also offers a mighty 1.2 Ghz processor combined with 1 GB RAM and latest Android 4.0 operating system which makes it quite attractive. The tablet comes with inbuilt memory storage of 4GB which can be extended up to a 32 GB. The Z-990 has a plenty of connectivity options, a standard 2.0 USB port, mini USB port, a micro SD card slot, an HDMI port, main power port plus an universal 3.5 mm jack. The Z-990 has given the rear camera a miss, but has managed to get a front facing camera in the right. Its frontal camera is 0.3 MP.
In the era of mobile computing, this product can beat any other product in this range in terms of specs. Zync is comfortable to hold as well as use with a thumb but one must be careful. However, the tablet does not offer a Bluetooth module, but if there is faster transfer method like USB, why would one search for a Bluetooth!
Disappointingly, the tablet does not have a SIM card slot. Instead, the tablet offers a Wi-Fi connectivity which supports 3G dongle. One can easily browse the internet at a high speed. The packaging boasts support for full 1080p HD video. It also supports MP4 and AVI formats, so users can pretty much enjoy any format for entertainment. One can always connect the tablet to a larger display using the mini-HDMI port, but the cable doesnt come bundle.
The tablet also offers a special external keyboard especially designed for the device, which comes very cheap. One can buy the keyboard to use the device more comfortably. The tablet comes with a 3600 mAh lithium-ion battery, which lasts for 5 hours with video playback.
All in all, the Zync slate is a pretty good Ice Cream Sandwich device one wishes to carry around, at school, in college or while travelling. It lacks in looks and physical specs, but rocks in its integrated spec sheet. If you are searching for a budget tablet with a good speech sheet, check this one out.
