UP sugar industry, Akhilesh govt fail to resolve cane price issue

The high-level meeting called by Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to find a solution to the vexed cane price issue on Sunday remained inconclusive, fe Bureau in Lucknow. The delegation of mill owners, consisting of Kushagra Bajaj, Ajit Shriram, CS Nopany, Vivek Saraogi, Tarun Sawhney and Raj Kumar Adlakha, met Yadav in Lucknow for over an hour and a half to identify ways by which both the state and the industry can find an end to the impasse. While the state government said it has ensured that the cane price announced by it this year was not hiked from R280 per quintal, so that the industry did not face additional problems, it expected the industry to act responsibly and start crushing so that farmers do not face any further problems. The next meeting between the two sides has been fixed for Tuesday.
