United Nations embarks on mission to make Internet safer

With the increasing proliferation of information and communication technologies (ICTs) and the growing opportunity for real-time borderless exchange, United Nations has embarked upon a mission mode plan for trans-national global cooperation in cyber security aimed at ensuring safe Internet access for developing and under-developed countries.

Vivek Lall, a renowned aerospace and cyber expert, will be helping in Cyber Security challenges around the globe, an official release said.

Ambassador Francis Lorenzo, deputy permanent representative to the UN in a statement said said "Dr Lall's activities will focus on bringing global attention to the importance of broadband services in the developing countries around the world and the Cyber Security challenges associated with achieving those objectives. His operational involvement will include the introduction of new Cyber Security initiatives as well as providing advisory support to a number of existing Broadband and South South programmes. This work will not involve the President of the the UN General Assembly, John Ashe to implement any policies in these or any other areas."
