Until June 27 this year, 184 accidents have been reported to the police. As many as 58 people lost their lives. Of them, seven were those who died in strange ways in freak accidents, in other words. Heres how

June 21

Five youths met with an accident at the Sector 7 and 8 dividing road in which Aditya Singla, 18, was declared dead on arrival by doctors while his friend Barinderjeet Singh was injured. The five had gone for a spin around 1 am when the driver, Sawanpreet, lost control after the front left tyre of the car busted. The car skidded and hit a tree at Sector 7 side of the dividing road of Sector 7 and 8. Aditya was sitting in the middle on the back seat with Manjeet and Barinderjeet on either side.

June 19

Sushil Kumar, 45, driver of a Himachal Roadways bus, was crushed under the bus after he fell out of the window when the car driven by Vrinda Kataria, 18, rammed into his bus. The accident occurred at 3.30 pm at Sector 45, 46, 49 and 50 light point. Kumar was coming from Faidan village towards the light point and Vrindas Zen was coming from Sector 45-46 dividing road towards Sector 49. Vrinda jumped the red light to cross the road, causing Kumar to pull the emergency brake to avoid a collision. Due to the impact of the collision and the brakes, Kumar fell out of the window.

June 7

OM Prakash, a resident of Sector 22 and a retired bank employee on a morning walk, was hit by a speeding Maruti 800 after it suffered a tyre puncture and swung off the road near the Sector 16-17 traffic lights at 5 am. Car driver Shruti, a resident of Sector 44, was rushing to PGI, where her father was admitted. Due to the impact, Prakash fell on the windscreen of the car which was broken. Prakash was taken to PGI and was admitted there as an unidentified person. When Prakash did not return home until 7 am, his family went looking for him. A PCR van told them a man had been taken to PGI. He died later.

June 5

Gurmeet Singh, 24, a resident of Lalru, was crushed under a Police Bus ferrying constables to the IRB base at Sarangpur village. The accident occurred at midnight. Gurmeet, who was on a bike, was coming from the Sector 17 side, while the bus was going to Sector 17 and was at Sector 21 side of the road. Somehow, Gurmeet lost control of his bike which hit the divider. Due to the jerk, Gurmeet fell on the opposite side of the road from where the bus was coming and his head was crushed under the front tyre of the bus. Driver of the bus, constable Hardyal Singh, was booked.

May 27

An accident happened in front of the Haryana Chief Ministers residence at 11 pm and two persons died while one was seriously injured. Anish was on a gear-less two-wheeler along with friend Mam Chand and Devi Datt was on a motorcycle. Anish was going from Sector to Naya Gaon and Devi Datt was coming from Sector 38 and going to Kaimbwala village. The two vehicles had a head-on collision.

Devi Datt was on the wrong side of the road. Anishs two-wheeler was badly crushed. Both drivers were wearing helmets which were broken into pieces.

Anish was declared dead on arrival by doctors at PGI and Devi Datt died after he suffered a cardiac arrest at 2 am the next day.

May 26

Mohinder Singh, a caterer, died after his two-wheeler was hit by a Tata 407 while he was returning from work. An eyewitness said that Singh was going from cattle pound towards industrial plots. Tata 407 was coming from CTU light point and was going towards Colony Number 4 light point. Near Plot No. 171, Singhs two-wheeler was hit by the accused vehicle from the back.

Singh lost balance as a result and suffered a head injury. He was declared dead on arrival by doctors.
