Sukhothai to present Mini Light and Sound Shows

The former Thai capital city of Sukhothai is all set to present a series of mini-light and sound presentations for the tourists with one show per month scheduled between February and September, this year. Sukhothai, which means dawn of happiness, is located 439.7 km north of Bangkok.

Thawatchai Arunyik, governor, Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) said, The show aims to showcase the glorious history and culture of this ancient Thai capital as the source of national heritage the Thai alphabet, the magical Loi Krathong celebration, firm foundation of Buddhism, fine Teen Chok cloth, ancient chinaware and holy Pho Khun (King Ramkhamhaeng the Great, who reigned over Sukhothais golden age during the 13th century).

The monthly mini show will be held on February 22, March 8, April 12 (prior to the Songkran holiday), May 10, June 14, July 11 (prior to the Buddhist Lent Day), August 9 (prior to Mothers Day), and September 13, at Wat Sasri inside the Sukhothai Historical Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Organised by TAT for the first time in 2008, the mini-light and sound performance previews the highlights of the much grander light and sound presentation scheduled during Sukhothais annual Loi Krathong and Candle Festival on the full moon of the 12th Lunar month (November 7th this year).

The mini light and sound show, classical performances, fireworks display and a Loi Krathong scene starts from 19:00 and lasts about 90 minutes. Visitors can listen to the narration in several languages including English, Japanese, French and German.
