'Besharam' collections notched up Rs 47.31 crore net in its 5-day opening weekend (Wednesday to Sunday] with the first Rs 21.56 cr coming from the opening day followed by Rs 7.13 cr on Thursday, Rs 5.68 cr on Friday, Rs 5.94 cr on Saturday, an estimated Rs 7 cr on Sunday, according trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
'Besharam' also starring Jaaved Jaffery and Pallavi Sharda, has turned out to be an epic disappointment at the box office.
Though the movie, which saw the coming together of Ranbir Kapoor and director Abhinav Kashyap of 'Dabangg' fame, got off to a good start on its release day, the movie couldn't sustain it for long.
It was due to Ranbir Kapoor's super stardom that 'Besharam' drew the audience to the cineplexes and single screens on Day 1. But, ultimately, the content has to do the talking and 'Besharam' was an absolute letdown on that front.
The business continued to dwindle with each passing day (escalating slightly on Sunday), clearly indicating that the audience has rejected the film.
Star value coupled with hype and hoopla can assure an impressive start at the ticket window, but for any film to last long, it ought to be backed by strong content.
In this case, the negative word of mouth spread faster than wild fire and the cracks were visible on its opening day itself, towards the evening/night shows specifically.
