Tata Coffee reappoints Hameed Huq as MD

Tata Coffee on Monday said it has reappointed Hameed Huq as managing director for next one year. In a filing to the BSE, the company said its board, in meeting on December 14, reappointed Hameed Huq as the managing director for a period of one year starting January 3, 2013. Tata Coffee, a subsidiary of Tata Global Beverages, is one of the Asia's largest coffee plantation company. It produces around 10,000 tonnes of coffee from its 19 estates in South India and its 2 instant coffee manufacturing facilities have a combined installed capacity of 6,000 tonne.

JSW, JFE ink agreement to produce electrical steel

Sajjan Jindal-promoted JSW Steel said on Monday it has signed a joint venture agreement with Japan's JFE Steel Corporation for producing non-oriented electrical steel sheets or CRNGO. As part of the agreement, JFE will provide technology for the production. The Japanese company already holds a 15% stake in JSW Steel.

Amul to set up R140-crore dairy unit in Thane

Milk giant Amul will soon set up a dairy unit in Thane district of Maharashtra. The first unit will come up in the Vasai area, Amul general manager K Ratnam said. The Rs 140 crore plant will collect around 10 lakh litres of milk daily, Ratnam said addressing a function organised by the Institute for Psychological Health (IPH) here. Amul had sometime back set up a small unit at Rajgurunagar in Pune district of Maharashtra, but now they will be setting up a larger unit in Vasai, he said.

Taj Group opens first hill station hotel in Coorg

Vivanta by Taj Hotels & Resorts on Monday announced its first hill station hotel in Coorg, about 247 km from here. This is the 25th property of the Taj group to be opened under the new brand launched in 2010, it said, adding it's situated at an altitude of 4,000 ft within 180 acres of sub-tropical rainforest. Raymond N Bickson, MD & CEO, Indian Hotels Company, said: Vivanta by Taj & Madikeri, Coorg is Taj Group's first hill station hotel.

Suzlon wins 105 Mw order in Canada

Suzlon Group subsidiary, REpower Systems SE, announced on Monday it has concluded a contract with wpd Europe GmbH, a subsidiary of project developer wpd AG, for the delivery of 51 wind turbines. As part of this, a service and maintenance agreement (ISP) for a total of 15 years for the new projects was also concluded, the company said in a statement. The REpower MM92 turbines, each with a rated power of 2.05 MW, are intended for six projects Whittington, Springwood, White Pines, Napier, Sumac Ridge and Fairview to be constructed and commissioned in 2014, it said.

Google brings Chandni Chowk market online

As part of its initiative to offer free website and domain to small & medium businesses in India through the India Get Your Business Online campaign launched a year ago, Google India on Monday unveiled a special initiative that was carried out to make the oldest and Indias biggest wholesale market Chandni Chowk of old Delhi easily accessible to users worldwide. As part of the project, Google India & HostGator went to each shop in Chandni Chowk and built over 2,500 free websites for businesses operating from the market. In addition to creating website for businesses, Google India also launched a common website www.chandnichowknowonline.in, which provides an easy-to-navigate directory of all businesses from Chandni Chowk that now have a website.

Tata Power to add coal firing equipment at Trombay unit

Tata Power said its adding coal firing equipment at a 500-MW unit of its oil & gas powered plant in Trombay, to make it run on a combination of all three fuels coal, oil & gas in a bid to reduce costs. The company, which has an installed generation capacity of 6899 MW in India, will also install pollution control equipments to ensure that current emission levels are maintained, Tata Power said.

Manufacturing, financial sector dominate IT deals

Manufacturing and financial services sectors accounted for over 45% of total IT contracts awarded in the country between January 2011 and December 2012, a report has said. In its report 'Domestic IT Deals in India Q1 2011 to Q3 2012 in Review', research firm Zinnov said, "Manufacturing and BFSI (Banking and Financial Services and Insurance) continue to be the largest verticals in terms of deal size, accounting for 26% and 20% of total IT deals, respectively."

McNally bags R733-crore offshore supply order

McNally Bharat Engineering Company Ltd has received an order of Rs 733.34 crore from ACC Limited for onshore supply, civil construction and installation and erection of New Jamul Cement Plant. The contractual delivery period is within 30.5 months, it said in a notice to Bombay Stock Exchange.
