State-owned Oil & Natural Gas Corp's (ONGC) Krishna Godavari basin well that had been leaking natural gas for over two months now, has stoped flowing gas, the government said on Friday. An uncontrolled flow of gas started from the Well G-1-9 in the Krishna Godavari basin started on August 30 and the gas leakage stopped on November 7, Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Panabaka Lakshmi said here. "Only gas was leaking and there has been no major pollution and damage to the environment. All precautionary measures were taken to arrest any eventuality of damage. The flora and fauna is intact as there were no traces of dead fishes in the area," she said.
Farmer suicide cases down in AP, Maha
Farmer suicides due to agrarian reasons in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh have come down drastically to 129 cases in 2012 as compared to the previous two years, Parliament was informed on Friday. The number of farmers' suicides due to agricultural reasons stood at 668 in 2011 and 785 in 2010 in these two states, minister of state for agriculture Tariq Anwar said in a written reply to the Rajya Sabha. "As reported by state governments, there is a fall in the number of suicides by farmers due to agrarian reason in 2012 as compared to the last two years," he said. So far in the 2012 calendar year, 11 cases of farmers suicides have been reported in Andhra Pradesh, while 118 in Maharashtra, totalling 129, the minister said. suicides in the current financial year, Haryana has seen no such cases so far this year, he added.
