Narendra Kothari takes charge as CMD of NMDC
Narendra Kothari has taken over as new the chairman and managing director of NMDC from this week. Kothari replaces Sail chief C S Verma, who held the additional charge of CMD, NMDC. The countrys top iron ore miner had been without a full-time chairman after retirement of Rana Som on December 31, 2011.
Environment ministry clears MCLs coal mine project in Odisha
The environment ministry has cleared, with certain conditions, the expansion of a mining project in Odisha of Mahanadi Coalfield Ltd, a subsidiary of Coal India Ltd. The environmental clearance for the expansion of Bhubaneshwari opencast project from 20 million tonnes per annum to 25 mtpa has been granted on the key condition that no mining operations will be undertaken in the forest land before obtaining clearances under the Forest Conservation Act, 1980.
ONGC, RIL to appoint joint expert to resolve gas dispute
ONGC and Reliance Industries will appoint a common international expert to resolve the dispute over their Krishna-Godavari basin gas fields. ONGC says at least three wells drilled by RIL on the boundary of KG-D6 block are within few hundred meters of its gas fields. It fears the fields are connected and RIL may be drawing out its gas, but RIL denies this.
Bhel seeks cooperation from vendors to overcome stress
Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel) has sought cooperation from its leading vendors to overcome the stress in the power sector. A large number of projects in power sector have become non-performing assets, resulting in locking up of funds. Mutual cooperation with business partners is the only way out to overcome these hurdles, Bhel PSER executive director Amitabh Mathur told a vendors meet in Kolkata. Sources said PSER (power sector eastern region) has a gross debt of around R2,500 crore.
Govt begins processof appointing full time AAI chairman
Almost three months after the post fell vacant, the government has begun the process of appointing a full-time chairman of the Airports Authority of India (AAI) with the Public Enterprises Selection Board seeking qualified candidates for the post. After the sudden exit of VP Agrawal, who held the post for five years, Alok Sinha, a joint secretary in the civil aviation ministry, has taken over as acting chairman on January 24.
