Addressing a press conference here today, Mausam Bhatt, Director, Mobile Marketing, Flipkart.com said that top product categories among the mobile shoppers in Chandigarh and the two northern states are books, mobiles, mobile accessories and footwear. He said that contribution of mobile channel to overall Flipkart revenue is steadily increasing and now more than 25 per cent of total orders come from mobile and mobile traffic is growing at two times the rate of desktops.
Most growth is coming from tier two cities. "This cash-on-delivery system helped consumers gain trust in online shopping as they saw products arrive he said. The number of registered users has gone upto 14 million, daily visits by over two million and about one lakh per day shipments to over 150 cities in India.
Bhatt said that mobile commerce will remain an important focus area for Flipkart in its endeavour to create an easy to use interface for mobile users. In reply to a question he said that Flipkart sales would cross the milestone $1 billion-mark this year in the country's exploding e-commerce market. This is a quantum jump from sales of just $ 10 million in 2011showing 100 per cent growth during the last three years.
As Flipkart was founded by Chandigarhs Sachin Bansal and Binny Bansal both in their thirtees with an initial investment of just Rs four lakh, the company was considering to launch one of its major CSR initiative from this city, said Bhatt.
