Parle, ITC to foray into foreign markets

Swadeshi biscuit major Parle Products is planning to spread its wings to Bangladesh after launching its select brands in Nepal this month.

Meanwhile, ITC Foods is getting ready to enter international markets to popularise its brand Sunfeast in foreign locales.

The Rs 4,000 crore branded biscuit industry is poised for a healthy growth this year as major players are chalking out aggresive expansion plans, according to industry analysts.

On the companys export plans, Parle Products Private Ltd marketing head Praveen Kulkarni said: We will be introducing our select brands in Bangladesh soon. For the purpose, we will be tying up with local import companies there.

Recently, we forayed into Nepal with our select brands. Currently, Parle Products exports its biscuit brands to Australia, Middle East, Dubai and Singapore.

Across the road, ITC Foods is gearing up to foray into international markets after expanding its product portfolio in the last two years, according to industry sources. When contacted by FE, the company confirmed the news but was reluctant to share further details about its export plans.

According to industry analysts, Indian biscuit majors are now chanting a new mantra-Replicate domestic success abroad.In developing countries, Indian biscuits are now in great demand. Realising the growth potential in global markets, biscuit majors are now keen to enter these markets, said analysts.
