OP Jindal Global University and Cambridge University have signed a formal pact last week to train IPS officers on knowledge-based policing system in India. The Union home ministry has awarded this training contract to Cambridge University working in concert with its Indian partner OP Jindal Global University. The training programme, designed by the Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, is aimed to benefit the entire Indian police force and society at large. Ashwani Kumar, director, Central Bureau of Investigation, was the chief guest at the MoU signing ceremony.
Speaking afterwards, Prof Lawrence W Sherman, director, police executive education of Institute of Criminology, University of Cambridge, delivered a public lecture on Knowledge-based policing: India and the global revolution in crime prevention. He noted that the rise of knowledge-based society has brought in an age of prevention more than it engendered a culture of malignancies. This achievement can be applied to policing, too, he said, elaborating points from his research.

New B-school coming up in Tamil Nadu
The Pollachi based NGM College Kalvi Kazhagam will soon open a new business school from the 2010-11 academic year. Promoted by industrialist N Mahalingam and backed by Sakthi Group of companies, the Sakthi Institute of Information & Management Studies would be a standalone B-school affiliated to Anna University, Coimbatore. With AICTE approval, the institute would offer MBA with specialisations in HR, marketing, finance, operations and systems.
