A Budapest-based textile designer claims to have developed an experimental fabric that can change colour within seconds.
The project led by Judit Eszter Karpati incorporates sound and sensors into a fabric pattern that seems to give the wearer the ability to blend into the background.
The installation consists of an arduino with 12 volt power supply and 20 custom printed circuit boards (PCBs) driving and controlling 4 industrial 24 volt DC power supplies, that heat two handmade textile woven with nichrome wires and screenprinted with thermochromatic dying, revealing the preprogrammed patterns, 'Gizmodo' reported.
Arduino is a single-board micro-controller, intended to make the application of interactive objects or environments more accessible.
"I intended to find out how I could incorporate the world of digital media into textile art," said Karpati.
"The two slow moving textile displays present ambient content. They react to environmental impulses responding with an animated change in pattern.
