Modi is expected to hold a special Round Table discussion with leaders from the banking and insurance sectors at this one-day summit on Wednesday organised by the Finance Department of government of Gujarat in association with the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (FICCI), Indian Merchant Chambers (IMC) & Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT), stated an official release here.
"The aim of this National Summit is to facilitate the process of putting together pragmatic rules, procedures and facilities which would expedite the development of the envisaged Global Financial Hub in India," the release added about the summit that will be held at GIFT City at Gandhinagar.
The GIFT-city project is a Government of Gujarat-initiative to develop a state-of-the-art Global Financial Hub to rival those in London, Tokyo, Paris and Shanghai. The project aimed at challenging Mumbai as a finance hub. However, the project conceived in 2007 is still grappling to attract interest from domestic and international firms operating in the banking and financial services sector.
