R245-crore creek bridge between Mankoli and Motagaon on the Ulhas creek, it said in a statement.
The construction of this 1,266 metre long bridge is
expected to commence soon and is slated to be complete in three years. The bridge will connect the National Highway-3 (NH-3) with the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation area and will also provide connectivity between NH-3 and Kalyan bypass.
The project is expected to
benefit the far-off eastern suburbs of Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
This creek bridge is said to reduce the traffic congestion on the NH-3 and NH-8.
The traffic will be diverted directly via Kalyan Ring Road-Katai Naka-Badlapur-Karjat-Hal Link Road to Khopoli (NH-4) without having to go through Mumbra, Kalamboli and Panvel.
As per the feasibility study carried out by the authority, it was concluded that constructing a road at grade was impossible in this area because of a huge mangrove belt, environmental clearance related issues and slushy area surrounding and parallel to the railway track. Hence the construction of a creek bridge was finalised by the authority, Dilip Kawathkar, joint project director, (public relations), MMRDA said.
