Letters to the editor:A bold and yet cautious move

The RBI Governor has surprised the market which was expecting an increase of at least 25 bps. Despite the high level of inflation, high level of uncertainties and slowing growth, the decision to keep the key policy rates unchanged is indeed a bold move. The industry circles will definitely be pleased and heave a sigh of relief. Perhaps, RBI would want things to settle down furthermore and get a clearer perspective on the eventualities ahead, even to take into account the outcome of US Federal Reserve meeting due on future of economic stimulus. In a nutshell, its a bold and cautious move not to allow the situation to drift away and yet keeping an eye on growth and inflation.

Producing champions

In the Idea Exchange programme (FE, December 15), tennis ace Leander Paes has pointed out how rural India and smaller towns can produce champions. And he is a model for our youth. He has given importance to good health. This, in turn, means that we have to give more importance to improving healthcare in rural areas. His plans for giving coaching and opening sports science centres are welcome. The government, should give due consideration to games and sports in educational institutions and in rural areas.
