Mazumdar-Shaw said, "I apologise for this inadvertent and improper tweet on Rohan Murty." She was apparently impressed by Rohan's presentation before the Infosys board on the initiatives taken by the chairman's office so far. Showering encomiums on executive chairman Narayana Murthy's 31-year-old son, Shaw on Saturday tweeted: At a recent Infy board meeting, I was most impressed by Rohan Murty's brilliant tech-loaded presentation, which will enormously benefit Infy." This tweet was later deleted.
Her gesture, however, attracted sharp responses, raising certain corporate governance issues as she publicly expressed her opinion on an individual, especially with regard to a board meeting.
The tweet also attracted attention as Murty, who holds the post of executive assistant to chairman NR Narayana Murthy, raises questions about his current and future role in the company.
In fact, Murtys role in Infosys has been a subject of much speculation with reports that he has been actively undertaking a lot of review meetings within the company. He has also been a constant fixture with his father in various meetings, sources said.
Infosys has announced the search for a new chief executive officer (CEO) to replace SD Shibulal, and there have been speculations that Murty is one of the possible contenders, though this has been vehemently denied by the company. Shibulal has said that Murtys term would end along with his fathers.
The nomination committee of Infosys, which will decide on the next CEO, has Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw as one of the members.
