And its not surprising that Sandeep Patil & Co will be consulting Indian captain MS Dhoni and coach Duncan Fletcher via video-conference before they announce the final squad.
Indias pace triumvirate of Ishant, Kumar and Mohammed Shami have already bowled 305.5 overs in all with two Tests still to go and their beanpole spearhead having missed the match in Southampton. With a hectic season to follow, both home and away, theres a good chance that the selectors decide to give them a break and instead go with the likes of Umesh Yadav and Dhawal Kulkarni. Both young pacers were impressive in their returns from India As successful tour to Australia.
Mumbais Kulkarni was the wrecker-in-chief with 14 scalps at 18.78 apiece during the one-day quadrangular tournament while Yadav, whose economy rate has been an issue in his limited ODI performances so far, was the leading wicket-taker in the two unofficial Tests. Mohit Sharma was consistent as ever with the ball Down Under and is sure to retain his spot in the ODI attack.
The likes of Robin Uthappa and Kedar Jadhav are also expected to come up for discussion when it comes to batting spots like keeper Sanju Samson.
RAVI Savant has resigned from his post as chairman of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) umpires sub-committee claiming that he had been given a raw deal by the board. Savant had sent his resignation letter to BCCI secretary Sanjay Patel a few days ago. While his resignation is yet to be accepted, it was learnt that interim president Shivlal Yadav had called Savant for a meeting on Tuesday.
Savant, a vice-president at the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) and the BCCI, had informed the local managing committee on Monday about his intention to quit from his post as the head of the umpires committee.
Savant is resigning as chairman of umpires sub-committee but will continue to remain BCCI vice-president. He is unhappy with the way the BCCI has let game development manager Ratnakar Shetty attend ICC conclaves and hold seminars for umpires in Bangalore while ignoring him, a BCCI official explained.
Australian umpire Simon Taufel will be holding a clinic for umpires in Bangalore where the BCCI will also be having their umpires education seminar. Savant felt that it was unfair to chair a committee when his services werent being utilised or required. Savant and Shetty have always shared a frosty relationship, starting from their time in the offices of the MCA, and this is only the latest row pitting the two officials.
