India has been in talks with France's national railways, which has been running TGV, high-speed trains, for 30 years and is one of the most profitable high-speed rail networks in the world.
It has an average speed of around 270 km/hr and is popularly called the French low-cost carrier.
French national railways has successfully demonstrated how to extend fast, safe, and environmentally friendly rail services to most of the country at prices that most of the population can afford. That's what India wants, said a senior rail board official.
A preliminary agreement between the Indian Railways and French National Railways has been signed for the 534-km Mumbai-Ahmadabad railway corridor, one of six transport corridors India has earmarked as suitable for the development of high-speed rail network.
