India Inc For Flexible Labour Laws: Ficci

Flexibility in labour laws and improvements in infrastructure facilities have emerged as the two top most priority that industry would like the proposed national manufacturing competitiveness council to take up. Finance minister P Chidambaram in the Budget 2004-05 had announced his decision to set up NMCC.

As per a Ficci survey, 62 per cent of the participating companies included labour and infrastructure in their priority areas for enhancing competitiveness of the Indian industry. About 40 per cent wants the proposed NMCC to take up the issue of rationalisation of commodity taxes and exit and restructuring issues.

Strengthening linkages between industry and vocational training institutions for producing technicians of world standard attracted response from 24 per cent of the respondents.
