Statistics minister Srikant Jena said MPCE in rural areas grew by 349.9% to 1,287.17 in 2011-12 from R286.10 in 1993-94 at current prices. Similarly, it rose by 36.52% in villages to 221.93% in 2011-12 compared to R162.56 in 1993-94 at constant prices.
2,000 pilots trained in India in 2010-12
Over 2,000 pilots have received training at government and private flying schools over the last three years, minister of state for civil aviation KC Venugopal said on Monday. Replying to a written question in RS, he said that a total of 741 pilots were trained at government flying schools between 2010 and 2012."The total number of pilots trained at private flying schools during the last three years is 1,337," he said.

Dreamliner aircraft following incidents of battery fires, Rajya Sabha was informed on Tuesday. MoS for civil aviation, KC Venugopal, said Air India had to incur additional expenditures due to temporary grounding of the 787 fleet.
Committee formed for senior citizens
An expert committee has been constituted by the ministry of of social justice and empowerment for the welfare of senior citizens.
The move comes in the backdrop of the approval given by Planning Commission to a proposal for the establishment of a National Commission for Senior Citizens.
New MCI rules: Rural posting must for docs
The Centre on Tuesday said the Medical Council of India (MCI) has amended post graduate medical education regulations, making it mandatory for candidates seeking admission in post graduate courses to have served in rural areas for at least one year. "It will be mandatory that a candidate seeking admission in post graduate course should have served in rural areas such as primary health centres for at least one year," health minister Ghulam Nabi Azad told Rajya Sabha.
Govt to conduct Time Use Survey
The Centre is considering conducting country-wide Time Use Survey (TUS) to assess the activities of people during a day.
For conducting the country-wide TUS, an expert group has been constituted by the statistics ministry with term of reference that includes finalisation of national classification of activities for TUS and recommending the survey methodology.
