Let us compare both of them and see who comes out as the better MPV.
Lets see the pricing details first. Toyota Innova is pretty expensive coming at a price of Rs. 14.92 lakh while the Mobilio with all amazing features like touch screen AVN Audio-Video and Navigation system along with a reverse parking camera, comes at the much better cost of Rs. 11.55 lakh. The difference is quite huge- Rs. 3-3.5 lakhs, that can make or break the deal for the Indian customers. But being expensive has never really affected the popularity of the Innova.
The Mobilio seems to have an edge over the Innova with a more affordable cost rate and fuel efficiency. Honda knows very well how to price its models smartly and will thereby attract more customers.
The Innova is the hands down winner when it comes to power. The biggest and heaviest of the segment, it comes with a 2.0-litre petrol and 2.5-litre diesel engine options and is the most powerful vehicle if you compare. With the largest capacity motor under its bonnet, the 2.0-litre, 4 cylinder petrol engine of the Innova churns out 131.4bhp @ 5600rpm, while yielding 181Nm of peak torque at 4,000rpm. While the 2.5-litre diesel engine produces 100.6bhp at 3600rpm and a rather impressive 200Nm of peak torque at 1200-3600rpm.The power delivery makes driving the Innova effortless even when the vehicle is jam packed. Only drawback in it is that it gives fuel efficiency of only 12kmpl. The Mobilio RS (O) will be available in diesel variety only. It shares its diesel engine options with the Honda City. The engines are powerful and frugal. The 1.5-litre i-DTEC diesel is the most fuel efficient engine in the country today. It belts out 98.6bhp and 200Nm and clearly outshines the Innova with a fuel efficiency of 24.2kmpl.
The overall dimension of a car is the most important aspect when it comes to MPVs which are best known for their spacious character. In this department, the Toyota Innova scores more than Mobilio. The Innova measures 4585mm in length, 1765 in width and 1760mm in height. It offers both the seven and eight seater models while Mobilio is a 7 seater. It's around 100mm longer than the Honda Mobilio and easily beats the Mobilio in terms of dimensions. It is the only vehicle to be a rear-wheel drive which gives it different characteristics. The Mobilio with its 4386mm length, 1683mm width and 1603mm height may not look big on dimensions but the car in real is spacious. It follows Hondas "Man maximum, machine minimum" philosophy, hence the car has been packaged so well that despite being a little bit smaller in dimensions, the car offers more space to its occupants. It has flexible seats and plenty of cubbyholes.
The new Mobilio is practically overflowing with amazing features. Let us get an idea about all these features. As mentioned above, the most talked about feature of this vehicle is the Audio Video Navigation (AVN) and Rear View Parking Camera. This AVN system is bestowed with a 15.7cm (approx 6-inch) touch screen infotainment system with satellite-based voice guided navigation, maps, in car entertainment and connectivity features. Also featured in the navigation system is a smart keyboard to select location. The infotainment system also acts as a reverse parking camera screen. This AVN system allows telephony and Bluetooth music play. Other features include DVD/CD playback, Bluetooth phone integration (receiving and making calls and music streaming), USB, AUX, i-POD, MP3, FM/AM. The Bluetooth connection functions are very beneficial since they allows synchronization with the phone and also features like dialing, answering, history, address book and music play via the screen.
Innova may not offer as many features as the Mobilio but provides a decent touch screen infotainment system with a reverse parking camera. Its best feature is the automatic air conditioning where all 3 rows get individual blowers. Mobilio RS on the other hand offers manual air conditioning. Mobilio offers easy ingress and egress with wide second-row and reclining and folding middle row. RS also looks much more sporty than the Innova. The spruced up Mobilio offers projector headlamps, day-time-running LEDs, flashy colors and premium fabric for interiors. Mixed leather upholstery is offered in Toyota. Safety features are decent with dual front airbags in both.
Currently both the MPVs offer excellent deals and only time will tell which MPV will top the sales chart. But as current stats suggests, Mobilio has been getting excellent response. Lets wait and watch.
