The golden jubilee celebration of Food Corporation of India (FCI) scheduled for today had to be called off at the last moment. In fact, all the security protocol was in place as President Pranab Mukherjee was to attend the mega event. However, the plan got derailed after FCI workers union threatened that it will raise the demand for pension and other benefits. Sensing the possibility of an embarrasment, food minister KV Thomas decided to postpone the event and a press advisory was sent to the beat reporters. Incidentally, FCI invitation mentioned that the celebrations coincided with the implementation of the historic National Food Security Act.
