The V-C was forced to take such a decision to defend the universitys autonomy. This is the beginning of the fall of the university. It is unfortunate that somebody has to resign to protect the autonomy of the university, Aditya Narain Mishra, President of AAD, told Newsline.

Chants and cheers from the jubilant student groups, in fact, were so loud that those standing outside the V-Cs office could hear the celebrations.

The DU Students Union office even had a poster of Raju Rawat ABVP student activist suspended from the university and MHRD minister Smriti Irani being thanked for the rollback of FYUP.

Meanwhile, the news of the V-Cs resignation also led to bickering among students group, with each claiming credit for the move. AISA and ABVP even resorted to slogan-screaming contest of sorts.

But the mood in these quarters suddenly turned sour as fresh news of the V-C changing his mind began doing the rounds. Meanwhile, loud cheers could he heard from those sitting on hunger strike half a kilometre away.

We always knew our V-C was a fighter. He will not give up so easily, a mathematics teacher from a prominent North Campus college told Newsline.
