Considering that the Indian entry level car segment continues to remain vibrant, the Nissan GO is all set to try and grab a share and at the same time offer greater options to the first-time buyer, which also means Hyundai Eon and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10 can expect some tough times.

Nissans revived budget auto brand Datsun has been creating news for quite sometime and many amongst us are quite excited for its upcoming low-cost cars in the emerging markets of the world. The cost cutting small car Datsun GO from Nissan is all set to write a new chapter in the Indian car bazaar and there are plenty of reasons behind it. The car was first showcased to the world last year in July and surprised the experts as well as the car enthusiasts with its charming exteriors and interior looks which were no less than of a B-segment car. Recently at the New Delhi Auto Expo, we have seen the production version of Datsun Go which has further cleared the picture of its ambitions to capture the A-segment market.

The low-cost car tag has been attached to this car since the news surfaced of its launch but the cheap price tag doesnt mean it actually looks cheap. If we take a close look on the car, the exterior and interior design is not compromised at all looking to the price factor. The exterior styling might not excite the auto enthusiasts much but it has undoubtedly attracted a large chunk of first time buyers. The front faade is dominated by trapezoidal grille on which Datsun badge has taken the center position. Both the front end of the car has been complimented with angular headlamps sweeping back to the V-shaped bonnet. The side profile is curvy in nature with a slight bulginess at the rear end making it the biggest in the segment. Moving to the back of the car you will find a pair of large tail lamps with Datsun badge adding aesthetic appeal. The accessorized Datsun Go will be offered with fog lamps, alloy wheels, chrome finished exhaust tips, rear spoiler, and body graphics and even reverse camera. Overall, the car can give higher segment cars a run for their money with the upmarket exteriors.

Step inside the car and you will be welcomed by class leading interiors. Datsun GO has taken design cues from sibling Micra that can be seen at the instrument cluster and the air conditioning vents at the front and the door handles. The same blue illuminating instrument console is ruled by speedometer along with shift-up markings while the steering wheel is in simple layout. The dashboard is dual toned in brown and beige to give the car maximum appeal in the segment. The hatch will be offered in with manual air conditioning system. Inside the car you will also the find the cost cutting factors like lack of music system, lack of rear power windows, a single large wiper instead of two and lack of rev counter. Music system has been replaced with a docking station for mobiles supported by USB and auxiliary input. The overall wheelbase of the car is impressive at 2,450mm while the length and width are 3,785mm and 1,485mm, the dimensions which again scores the highest in the segment making it the most spacious. The car despite its compact size can easily absorb five occupants. Datsun GO will also be launched with essential safety features.

Datsun GO has underpinnings of Nissan V-Platform and will be available in only petrol variant. Under the hood it is powered by 1.2L three-cylinder petrol engine which is tuned to give a fair output of 67bhp and 106Nm of torque and is mated to five-speed manual transmission gearbox. As per the ARAI driving stats, Datsun GO returns decent mileage of 20kmpl which is considered good by experts.

Pre-bookings of this small hatch have already begun with amount of Rs 11,000 and good news is that all the variants will be priced under 4 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi). The entry level hatch is mainly targeted at the first time buyers who would relish the features company has provided in this car. As per the competition is concerned, it will lock horns with Hyundai Eon and Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. The car will be officially launched on coming 19th March and is hoped to gain trust in the market.
