To explore possibilities of re-locating rubber products manufacturing facilities from USA to India, Capexil, a rubber export and trade promotion body, is sending eight member delegation from Indian rubber industry to visit Chicago and New York. The visit is likely to coincide with Rubber Expo TM 2003, to be held at Cleveland, Ohio, from 8th to 21st October, 2003.

The main objective to send the delegation, is to promote and facilitate sourcing of rubber manufactured products from India, with a focus on specialised rubber products like aero-space rubber parts, missile parts, parts for sub-marine and battle tanks, auto rubber parts, solid wheels, moulded rubber articles, etc.

Capexil, Chairman, MF Vohra said, Domestic rubber producers are positive on developing India as a rubber product hub. They should explore the vast potential existing in the international markets and ought to grab a major chunk of the international market pie. In this regard, the delegation team is likely to explore the scope of technology transfer/ upgradation/ business alliances etc. The delegation is also likely to identify potential buyers of rubber manufactured products. This will surely widen the rubber export basket of the country, Mr Vohra said. This is an opportune time for Indian rubber producers to carve a niche for themselves in the international arena, as majority of the US rubber producers are closing shop on account of environmental and other issues. Hence, they are looking for tie-ups or out-sourcing, in a bid to optimise the cost. Mr Vohra said, The members of the delegation are reputed rubber manufacturers and exporters from diverse background. The members are keen to build a long term business relations with US companies for marketing rubber products in USA and adjoining countries, and also hope to identify JV partners.
