Campus roundup: New Zealand to expand local education presence

New Zealand has announced the expansion of its education footprint in India with the setting up of an education promotion & market development role within the New Zealand Consulate General in Mumbai. Announced by Education New Zealands (ENZ) Regional Director South Asia Ziena Jalil, the expansion acknowledges the increased interest in New Zealand as a study destination and business partner. New Zealand Consul General Gavin Young said: The New Zealand Consulate General in Mumbai currently has consular, trade, investment, tourism and visa functions. I welcome the addition of an education advisor. Student visas issued to Indian nationals seeking to study in New Zealand increased more than 10% last year.

Dewan VS Group, Meerut, organises seminar on FDI

The Dewan VS Group of Institutions, Meerut, recently organised a national level seminar on Fostering growth through FDIOpportunities and Challenges. AICTE was the sponsor of this seminar. RK Khandal, vice-chancellor, UP Technical University, Lucknow, was the chief guest. SS Chawla, senior director, Assocham; Prof AS Khullar, Prof VK Malhotra and Prof BS Nagi were the other dignitaries present. The seminar was attended by more than 100 faculty members and research scholars. The aim of the seminar was to know the opinion of experts on the effect of FDI on Indian economy and society.

Supertech launches the Supertech University

Supertech is diversifying into education. Last week, the real estate developer announced the launch of the Supertech University, which is being set up in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand. Set up over 47 acres, it aims at creating a value-based, innovation-driven and research-led world-class learning environment. RK Arora, chairman & MD, Supertech, said, Building homes to building institutions is a leap of faith inspired by motivation to touch lives of millions. Prof VPS Arora, vice-chancellor, Supertech University, said, I feel honoured to be part of this university and aim to nurture it into an island of excellence. Supertech added that an investment of R750 crore will be done in the first phase of the construction of the university.

Presidency College signs agreement with ACCA

One of Bangalores top ranked business schools, Presidency College, has partnered with leading global accountancy body ACCA (the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) to enable its finance students gain a globally recognised professional qualification by the time they graduate. Presidency College, which is affiliated to Bangalore University and offers courses to 14,000 students, signed an MoU with ACCA which will result in both working closely to offer the ACCA Qualification, equivalent to a UK Masters degree, to finance and accountancy students.

Tata Social Enterprise Challenge held at IIM-C

The winners of the second edition of Tata Social Enterprise Challenge, hosted by the Tata group in partnership with IIM Calcutta, were recently announced. The challenge aimed at discovering, encouraging and mentoring the next generation of social entrepreneurs, and the top 3 winners were MicroXlabs, Bodhi Health Care and Green Agrevolution, winning prize monies of R1.75 lakh, R1.25 lakh and R1 lakh, respectively. It featured special talks by Harish Hande, co-founder & MD, SELCO India, and Shankar Venkateswaran, chief, Tata Sustainability Group. It attracted over 160 entries India and an entry from Bulgaria.

ICF recognised as Asias fastest growing institute

The WCRC Leaders Asian Education Excellence Summit & Awards recently honoured the International College of Fashion (ICF) with the Asias fastest growing private education institute award.
