Bill on RTI in monsoon session is govts antidote to CIC order

With major parties on board, the government is set to move a bill in the monsoon session of Parliament for amending the RTI Act to overturn a Central Information Commission (CIC) order bringing six major political parties under the ambit of the transparency law.

SC notice to Centre, states on disaster management

The Supreme Court on Friday issued notice to Uttarakhand and six other states for their alleged failure in implementing the Disaster Management Act in order to handle natural catastrophes. A bench headed by Justice AK Patnaik sought response from the Centre, the states and the Union Territory of Andaman & Nicobar Islands on a PIL alleging that governments have failed to implement in true spirit the Act which was passed in 2005.

Railgate: Judicial custody of 9 accused extended till July 24

A Delhi court on Friday extended till July 24 the judicial custody of nine accused, including former railway minister Pawan Kumar Bansals nephew Vijay Singla, who have been arrested in connection with the R10 crore railway bribery case.
